Let’s Make It:

Prepare the following:

  • 80 grams fresh cherries (yes, fresh, not the gummy candy type 🍒)

  • 10 grams icing sugar (or normal sugar)

  • 3–4 grams hojicha powder (we used 3 g in testing, but 4 g works if you like it richer)

  • 50 ml water

  • 140 ml cold milk

  • Ice cubes (because lukewarm hojicha milk is just sad)

Fry your cherries like a pro

Throw 80 g of fresh cherries into a pan with 10 g of icing sugar. Keep the heat on medium and let them cook for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally, don’t just scroll TikTok and forget them. Add a splash of water if they start looking too dry. You’re aiming for soft, jammy cherries, not burnt ones.

Once done, pop them into a bowl and let them cool. (Yes, I know you want to taste test, but don’t burn your tongue.)

Mix your hojicha

In a small bowl, whisk 3 g of hojicha powder with 50 ml water. No need to overcomplicate this step – just make sure it’s smooth and lump-free. Then set it aside like a VIP guest waiting to be introduced.

Assemble the masterpiece

Grab a nice glass (bonus points if it’s transparent for that layered look).

  1. Add the cherry jam to the bottom.

  2. Throw in a few ice cubes if you want it extra cold.

  3. Pour in 140 ml of milk, letting it mix slightly with the cherries.

  4. Finish it off with your hojicha mix on top.

Give it a gentle swirl (or don’t, if you want to Instagram the layers first).

Finally, enjoy

You’ve got a drink that’s fruity, roasty, creamy, and just a little bit indulgent. Sip slowly. You’ve earned it.
