Let’s Make It:
Prepare the following:
🍵 4 grams of Hojicha powder
💧 60–70 ml hot water (around 80°C – not boiling)
🌰 7–8 dried dates (or a generous handful)
🥛 120–150 ml milk (any kind — oat, almond, dairy, your call)
🥄 120 ml double cream (or less if you prefer a lighter layer)
🧊 A few ice cubes (optional)
Steps to follow
Step 1: Start with the Hojicha - add 4 grams of hojicha powder into a bowl and pour in 60–70 ml of hot water (about 80°C). Whisk until smooth and fully dissolved — you’re aiming for that deep, toasty aroma and a silky finish. Set it aside for now.
Step 2: prep the dates base. Chop 7–8 dried dates into small pieces and toss them into a blender with a splash of milk — just enough to help everything blend.
Step3: mix the dates base with cream. Once your dates base is ready and smooth, pour that mixture into a cup and add about 120 ml of double cream.Grab your electric hand blender and blend until it turns into a thick, whipped-cream-like texture. (No blender? No worries — you can whisk it by hand in a bowl or use the same blender cup you started with. It’s rustic, but it works.)
Step 4: assembly. Now, time to put it all together. Add 3–4 ice cubes to your glass, pour in your whisked Hojicha, and then top it up with 120–150 ml of milk. Give it a gentle stir. Finally, spoon that rich, date-infused cream on top — thick, dreamy, and naturally sweet.
And there it is — your Hojicha Latte with Date Cream. Toasty, nutty, and lightly caramel-like with no added sugar, just dates doing their magic.
The cozy winter version
For a cozy winter version, skip the ice and instead mix your Hojicha base with milk. Put it in the microwave for about a minute before finishing it with the date cream on top. And that is that you got a winter version of the sweet hojicha dates latte.
